Adora
Adora Bold and Adora Medium are loosely modeled on Walter Tracy’s AdSans. Previous digital interpretations have featured an extensive lack of both decent spacing and ligatures. Adora has a large x-height and reads well at small point sizes.
Similar fonts such as Doric Bold have been going through a resurgence in popularity over the past few years, as popularized by the work of Dutch designer Karel Martens, founder of the Werkplaats Typografie. While it is great to see an older type design make such a comeback, the inconsistent spacing of these types consistently bothered me. I decided to try to keep the rough-hewn look and feel of Tracy’s original designs, but make copious edits to enhance readability to both the general shapes and spacing.
Adora Bold and Adora Medium have large, heavy capitals with uniform letter widths; these qualities coupled with a large x-height allow greater legibility at small point sizes. Both are available via Wordshape and MyFonts.
